Tax Settings
Overview
Book It Fast allows you to configure how tax is applied to your bookings. Whether you need to include GST, exclude it, or keep your bookings BAS-excluded, you can set this up in your organisation’s payment settings.
How to Set Up Tax
- In your admin panel, go to Organisation Settings > Organisations in the sidebar
- Click Edit on your organisation
- Click the Payment Settings tab
- Scroll down to find the Tax Type dropdown
- Select the appropriate tax type for your business:
- BAS Excluded — No tax is applied to bookings (default). Use this if you are not registered for GST or your accommodation is BAS-excluded.
- GST Inclusive — The booking price already includes GST. The tax amount is calculated from the total.
- GST Exclusive — GST is added on top of the booking price.
- Set the Tax Percent — For Australian GST, enter 10. Enter 0 if tax is not applicable.
- Click Save changes
Invoice Settings
While you are on the Payment Settings tab, you can also configure your invoice numbering:
- Invoice Prefix — A short code that appears before your invoice numbers (e.g., “RBH” for Rocks Beach House)
- Invoice Next Number — The next invoice number that will be assigned. This increments automatically.
Currency
You can also set your default currency on this same page. Select your currency from the Currency dropdown (e.g., AUD – Australian Dollar).
When to Use Each Tax Type
- BAS Excluded — Most common for small accommodation providers who are not registered for GST, or whose accommodation is input-taxed under Australian tax law
- GST Inclusive — Use if you advertise prices that already include GST and want the tax amount calculated backwards from the total
- GST Exclusive — Use if you want to show a base price plus GST on top
Tips
- If you are unsure about your GST obligations, consult your accountant or the ATO
- Tax settings apply to all properties within your organisation
- If you use the Xero integration, your tax settings here should match your Xero configuration to keep your accounting in sync
